Marya Annette McQuirter

Marya became a vegetarian in 1987 for health reasons. Since 2001, out of a commitment to living a more simple and ethical life, she eats primarily local, organic and raw foods and does not eat or wear animals or animal products. Marya served on the board of the Vegetarian Society of the District of Columbia from 2002-2004. In October 2002, in celebration of VSDC's 75th anniversary, she curated "Vegetarian D.C.: A History of Cuisine, Commerce & Compassion." Marya has a Ph.D. in history.

Tracye L. McQuirter

Tracye has been a vegetarian since 1987, inspired by a health lecture given by Dick Gregory. She became vegan in 1989. Tracye promotes the health, ethical and environmental benefits of vegetarianism through lectures, workshops and writing.  She is also a co-founder of the Black Vegetarian Society of New York. Tracye has a Master's degree in public health nutrition.
